A Message from the Director
We kicked off the year by offering children and families of New Hartford a series of opportunities to explore the issue of bullying. These opportunities included panel presentations and town hall-style discussions where residents of any age were able to share their experiences and opinions regarding the ever-growing issue of bullying and how it affects youth and even their families. On the program side, we offered a site based mentoring program at the Recreation office (Brodie Park) one day a week to experience one-on-one and group mentoring activities. Mentoring has been shown to have a positive impact in reducing bullying for victims of bullying as well as perpetrators.
We are also gearing up for a new session at Camp Brodie as well as our very popular July concert series. This year, our July series will be preceded by a very special June 29th concert with a performance from the 102nd Army Band. Come on out and join your friends and neighbors at scenic Brodie Park to enjoy some of the area’s finest musicians.
The Recreation Department is strongly committed to helping youth and families achieve happy, healthy lives; addressing bullying and finding ways to improve the experiences of our youth—whether at home or on the playground—speaks directly to that commitment. We are looking forward to joining this new activity with many of the traditional activities offered by Recreation and, as always, appreciate suggestions, ideas and input regarding new and existing activities, programs, and services that benefit the community.
